After garnering over half a million streams with his previous band, Max Bacani emerges with Understanding the Spell, a self-produced and mixed solo EP.
Mastered by Huntley Miller (Bon Iver, Samia, Hippo Campus, Sylvan Esso), the six-song project weaves alternative, folk, and pop into a concise 17-minute journey.
The EP explores healing, growth, and unlearning, with sounds that mirror those themes in textured, experimental, and unpredictable ways.
It plays like a first-time spellcaster attempting to harness something powerful, guided by instinct and emotions as catharsis unfolds and unwinds.

Bio
Originally from the suburbs outside of Chicago, Max Bacani moved to Los Angeles to pursue an engineering degree. But it was his love for music that he cultivated (growing up playing in bands in the Midwest indie scene) that ultimately led him toward songwriting and production. His work focuses on feelings and sounds that are raw, warm, off-center, and quietly magical.
